Safe, reliable and sustainable water services for metropolitan Wellington communities

Tiaki Wai Metro Water is the new organisation that will deliver drinking water, wastewater and reticulated stormwater services across the metropolitan Wellington area from 1 July 2026.

For now, if you have any immediate water issues, please get in touch with your council.

Tiaki Wai means 'carers for water'.

Metropolitan Wellington

People living and working within the boundaries of Hutt, Porirua, Upper Hutt and Wellington city councils are served by an interconnected water system. Drinking water from the Hutt Valley supplies the whole area and communities covered by different councils share the same wastewater treatment plants.

Our goal is to ensure the delivery of safe, reliable, environmentally and financially sustainable water services so the region can be resilient, restore te mana o te wai and enable new homes and the well-being of communities.
